So yes it is true I do love you all like I love cake, Opponauts... and boy do I really love cake.

I am a hefty person (6'4 - 400lbs) and I am starting to plan a vacation, to beautiful Las Vegas Nevada!

(no, it is not for the International Twinkie eating competion, everyone knows that goes down in Tunica, Mississippi you silly goose)

The QOTD today, about the best coach seat in all of air travel sparked my chubby interest. The over worked (lolz), and horribly under-paid editors, at this very website got me thinking. " whats for lunch?" Soon after my lunch order had been put in, (eating an entire large pie is normal right?), I began to wonder: " how is my fat jolly ass gonna fit in a seat? Can I ride in the cargo hold? Can I ride on the wing? Who invented the pizza table so the box doesn't mess up the cheese?"

Kinja'd!!!

After learning that indeed the wonderful people (and horrible products) at Dominos, did in-fact invent the "box tent", and that it was already patented, It still left me with my other burning questions un-awnsered.

So to you, the great people of Oppo, which airline has the widest seat in coach?

If there are any other people here that shop at Casual Male XL (there annual fall sale, IS GOING ON NOW!) that could recommend a seat that I will infact fit into, it would be of great joy to me, and my love handles!

I've traveled with a lot of different, US but mostly non-US airlines. None really accommodate for the larger gentleman in my experience. I'm only 5'10 and not especially large, but I do have broad shoulders and that is often enough to take up more space than one is provided. I always go for an aisle seat, if I can which affords you a little extra room.

Just pointing this out, Dominos did not invent it, the patent belongs to Carmela Vitale who filed it in 1983 and got it 1985. It's US Patent No: 4,498,586.

Avoid Spirit Airlines at all costs. I'm an average built guy but my god, those seats are small and the legroom is great for an amputee. You are like cattle to them and the fares are low...but they make up for it in spades by charging you ridiculous prices for every little thing. Personally, I think Southwest is the way to go in terms of spaciousness and comfort.

Airline seats are designed for persons no more than 5'6" and a scant 135 pounds. At an even 6' and 185 even I cannot get comfortable in typical airline seats; granted I've never flown "First Class." I cannot imagine the discomfort and probable back pain that would be endured if I were a good deal larger.

I can't really offer too much help other than to avoid a particular model of airliner known as the MD-80 or any of it's variants. Tight, noisy and bumpy as all get out. I've had the misfortune of having to fly on them 3 times. The last one was downright scary and I've flown quite a bit in all sorts of different jets and propeller driven planes.

On a side note I googled "International Twinkie Eating Contest."

Holy Crap! It's a real thing!

I don't have an airline suggestion, but a general piece of advice based on observation, pee before flight.

So, I'm on this flight to Australia, and this poor guy who was easily over 6 feet tall was attempting to origami himself into one of the lavs. I don't know how, but he did, eventually, get the tiny concertina door to shut behind him, based on the continued banging sounds, I suspect a sit down toilet use situation ensued and his knees were hitting the door. Poor guy :(

however! some good advice, select an annoying flight time (stupid early, or stupid late) so there will be less people on board, and book a seat if possible with empty seat/s next to you. If you find an empty 3 seat row book the middle seat to discourage others booking seats either side of you. You may then, with luck, obtain a 2 seat space, or possibly the elusive 3 seat space in which to spread out a little.

I wonder if the extra room provided by a business/first class seat is worth spending for, compared to the squeezing in one has to do in economy. For someone your size, I'd say its a far more comfortable proposition. I'm 6' and 175 lbs and I hate economy seats, mainly for the height bit but sometimes the person next to you is too close.

Sorry, I have no positive feedback to this question without going into human powered flight vehicles.

For your health, comfort, and wallet, you should spend your money on one of these instead of at the blackjack tables in Vegas. Either that, or pony up and buy two adjacent seats on the plane; because I for one would hate sitting next to you for the entire two hour flight otherwise.

You gotta own that shit man. With pride. Walk around, all fat, (I am fat, so this is not a joke or mockery), and OWN IT. Crush that ass into the seat. Also, spend a lot of the flight hitting on stewardesses. They appreciate it, and will thank you for noticing that they have been using the stairmaster a lot.

Having flown international first class, international business, and coach (note, domestic first class sucks), I have to say, First class, is wonderful. Not worth the money, but it was totally worth getting bumped from B-class to coach for a 6 hour flight to get the 13 hour flight in first. They address you by name, the seats are large, the food.... Oh my god the food. "Would you like a hot fudge sundae Mr. That guy?" Not "here are some cookies bitch, dont bother me".

Most of the time when I fly ultra long distances, like 10+ hours, I just dont sleep at all leading up the flight, take a couple nyquils, throw back a few vodka tonics, and try to sleep the whole way.

Yes. United Plus, or something like that. Up to 6 more inches of leg room. The seat is not any bigger. It is nice, and certainly better than not having it. But can cost anywhere from $40 bucks to several hundred dollars. For a long flight, I would NOT do it. Long flights in coach are awful and should be banned under the Geneva Convention. But they are not. Several hundred dollars is enough for 100 beers, some drugs, lady friends, massages, and is just plain several hundred bucks. Short flights, like 3-5 hour continental flights, maybe worth the extra cash. Long flights, suck it up, get a 2 hour massage when you land. If the company is paying, DO IT. If the upgrade is free, obviously. As part of a airline club, meh.... if you fly a lot, you will either qualify for the club, of you can pay, and it might be worth it.

I drive a Scion xB. Which has a shit load of legroom in the back. With the front seat all the way forward, cram three people into the back seat. That is Coach Plus. Now jam that seat all the way back. Still 'enough' legroom, but it doesnt change the fact that the old lady who is supposed to be sitting next to you is now in your lap.

we need to hang out, these things are right up my ally! I like the way you roll, that guy

so bacically im fucked, cuz I think a business class seat doesnt justify spending money, when I could have said items above
